PURPOSE: This study aims to demonstrate the long-term efficacy of BoNT-A and the muscular rebalancing that occurs with repeated treatments, despite its reversible effects.
METHODS:This single-center study enrolled 400 patients (380 women and 20 men, aged 35 to 85) from 2018 to 2024 Participants received full face and neck BoNT-A injections, repeating this treatment at least 3 or 4 times every six months, with dosages ranging from 120 to 160 units per session at specific standardized sites. Patient perspective was assessed postoperatively using the validated 5-point Merz scale, while pre- and post-treatment outcomes were evaluated through standardized photo and video documentation, by two independent surgeons using a 5-point VAS scale. Patients who had other aesthetic procedures during the observation period, had follow-ups shorter than two years, or contraindications (e.g., allergies to the toxin, neuromuscular diseases, pregnancy) were excluded.
RESULTS: Both the Merz scale and VAS evaluations indicated significant post-treatment improvement after the first session (p < 0.01). Notably, the improvement appeared to be maintained when comparing initial post-treatment assessments with those taken after three or four treatments (p < 0.001), supporting the hypothesis that results persist beyond the functional duration of BoNT-A after repeated sessions.
CONCLUSION: This study confirms the efficacy of BoNT-A for full face rejuvenating, suggesting that repeated treatments contribute to long-term stabilization of results. Additionally, BoNT-A not only offers temporary benefits but also induces muscular plasticity, which may be advantageous in supporting future surgical interventions, like facelifts, for maintaining results over time.
